Lexington, Alabama – Global Special Effects will be expanding its special effects repertoire to include digital effects, effective June 2012.  A major Hollywood studio has made a miraculous decision to relocate a division of their studio to Lexington, Alabama, in order to work hand-in-hand with Francisco Guerra and his special effects design team.  In order to accomodate the Hollywood studio division and its personnel, GSE will be constructing a new studio building measuring 10,000 square feet, next to their main special effects manufacturing facility.

In addition to the equipment provided by the Hollywood studio, this new studio building will feature state-of-the-art digital special effects equipment, including the most cutting-edge 3D green screen technology and RED cameras.  The new facility will be total post-production computer effects with a custom network hub that will seamlessly link Global Special Effects to their Hollywood studio counterpart.  ”This is actually one of the best parts,” stated Francisco Guerra, president and founder of Global Special Effects, “it’s amazing that at this day and age we are able to seamlessly work hand-in-hand with Hollywood, just like we’re right there alongside of them…when in reality, we’re all the way across the country in rural Alabama.  It absolutely blows my mind…it’s a great feeling.”

In addition to the personnel who will be relocating from Hollywood, Global Special Effects also hopes to create new jobs for the Shoals Area.  GSE is starting a student intern program to work side-by-side with students from The University of North Alabama, and Francisco Guerra said he hopes that they will be able to provide jobs for some of those talented students upon graduation.  Guerra said that he has heard of UNA’s cutting-edge digital media program and believes that it can provide him with some valuable interns who can get their foot in the door by working alongside industry professionals.

However, studio personnel will not be the only Hollywood pros planning to grace the new special effects facility with their presence.  Guerra also stated that James Cameron has made plans to visit the studio upon its completion.  ”We have well-known people visiting Global Special Effects all the time,” said Guerra, “only our staff has learned (and is now contracted) to keep quiet about it…the people of Lexington wouldn’t believe some of the people who have stepped foot right in their own backyards!”

When GSE employees heard about the upcoming changes, Guerra said they were ecstatic.  ”We are simply overjoyed to have the chance to partake in such an amazing opportunity,” he said, “not everyone gets to live out their dreams every single day like we do…We’re very blessed.”
