Oriental DreamWorks Plans $31 Billion Venture, Invites GSE

Oriental DreamWorks, a Chinese venture by DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc., has planned a new entertainment centre in Shanghai, costing a whopping 20 billion yuen ($3 billion USD).   The building is expected to rival New York’s Broadway and London’s West End.

Titled “The Dream Center”, it is expected to open in 2016, and will include theaters, restaurants, shops, and hotels, and Oriental DreamWorks have already graciously invited Global Special Effects to be the live special effects coordinators at its unveiling!  Oriental DreamWorks will be the co-producers of Kung Fu Panda 3, and plans to release the film in 2016 to coincide with the unveiling of The Dream Center.

Last year, movie ticket sales in China rose 35% to $2 billion, according to the Motion Picture Association of America, making China the third largest movie market behind the U.S. and Japan.
